ABOUT KENYA
Kenya is a country in the eastern part of Africa. It is slightly more than twice the size of the state of Nevada in USA and about 8 hours ahead of EST.With its rapidly developing telecommunications infrastructure, highly educated English-speaking population, and easy accessibility from any part of the world, Kenya is uniquely positioned to take off as the next popular destination for IT enabled services.
Information Technology (IT) in Kenya: Kenya has always been in the forefront of developments in Information Technology and has emerged as one of Africa’s leaders in this area. Infact, I T is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country and is in use in the majority of economic sectors in the country.
Internet & Telecommunications Infrastructure: Kenya has one of the largest and fastest growing Internet sectors in Africa. Since the internet came to Kenya in 1994, the country has experienced phenomenal growth in internet use. There are now numerous internet hosts, close to 100 licensed Internet Service Providers and over quarter million internet users in the country.
Education System: Kenya has a well developed education system, with the primary language of instruction being English.
Economic Situation:Since 1993, the government of Kenya been very keen to implement economic liberalization and has instituted various reforms. This has led to better economic performance and an improved environment for conducting business.
The country has in the last few decades tried to reduce dependence on the traditional agricultural export commodities such as tea and coffee and has made serious efforts to promote non-traditional exports such as horticultural crops, manufactures, and most recently the export of services.
